MAC Address
What is a MAC Address?
The MAC address (Media Access Control address) is a unique identifier for all network devices, ethernet or wireless, and is assigned to the relevant cards in computers, printers, modems, mobile phones, etc. If you want to geek out then check out this wikipedia page.
What is MAC Address Filtering?
MAC address filtering refers to the process of allowing (denying) access to a wireless network based on the hardware address of the device attempting to connect. The Wireless MAC address is often printed on the underside of the device but is always available from within the operating system (MAC OS and Windows)
Why is MAC Addressing Used on Gasnet?
I enable MAC Address Filtering to prevent unauthorised people from accessing the internet, even if they know the wireless password. Once you have supplied me with your MAC Address I will enter it into the router so that your wireless device (smartphone, laptop, iPad ) will be authorised. Find my MAC Address.
What do I do if I am already using Gasnet2?
If you have previously subscribed to Gasnet3 I will have your MAC address. If you choose to continue using Gasnet3 and pay your subscription there is nothing to do. If you buy a new phone, iPad or laptop you will need to give me the new MAC Address. If you wish to add another device to your subscription (for example, an iPhone or iPad when you have been using a laptop, no extra charge) then I will need the MAC Address of that device.
